Lantern Floating Experience

It is said that in Hiroshima the tradition of lantern floating began immediately after the end of Second World War. To remember the dead and pray for reconstruction, bereaved families and friends who had lost their loved ones in the atomic-bomb explosion floated handmade paper lanterns (tōrō) down the river. Since that day the tōrōnagashi has been held every year on August 6. The tōrōnagashi is one of the city’s “Hiroshima Experience Events.”
Through this experience, we hope to send messages of peace from each one of us to the world, celebrating the preciousness of each human life and praying for eternal peace on earth.

Thousand paper crane Dedication

Death of bombed Sadako’s sparked a movement to erect a statue, to comfort the souls of the children who died from the atomic-bomb explosion and promote the cause of peace.
Donations poured in from throughout Japan, and the Children’s Peace Monument was completed on the grounds of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
The story of Sadako Sasaki later spread around the world. Today origami cranes continue to be dedicated at the Children’s Peace Monument, from throughout Japan and around the world.

Floral Tribute Ceremony

August 6
At the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony, attendants place a flower offering at the Cenotaph for the A-bomb victims in Peace Memorial Park, to pray for the repose of the souls of those who perished in the atomic explosion.
